Buying A Yorkshire Terrier

yorkie yorkshire terrier puppy

he Yorkshire terrier, or Yorkie as it is lovingly known as, is an ideal dog for apartment life. They are very active indoors and will do well without a yard. The Yorkie is sensitive to the cold and prefers warm climates.

Yorkshire Terriers are active little dogs, who need a daily walk. Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however, they will still require you to take them for a walk. This will omprove theri temperment and behaviour. If your Yorkie runs around the house insanely, it is a sign that he needs to go on more or longer walks where he is made to heel beside or behind the human. Remember, in a Yorkie’s mind, the leader (or alpha dog) leads the way. They will also enjoy a nice solid long playtime in a safe open area off lead, such as a large fenced in yard or dog park.

Wirehaired Fox Terrier Tips

The Wirehaired Fox Terrier is an active, fun and energetic terrier. They are extremely playful especially with children. Wirehaired Fox Terriers need to be taken for a daily walk. If you have a fenced in yard, play can take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however, as with all breeds, you still need to walk them. Dogs who do not get to go on daily walks are more skittish and likely to have behavioral problems. If it is possible, let them run free in a safe area. Keep this dog on a leash if there are small animals around. The urge for these dogs to hunt is strong and they are likely to take off after cats and small dogs. Buying A Bulldog Puppy

bulldog puppy

Price always seem to be the big question when it comes to this breed. Most people don’t seem to understand the cost and time devoted to producing and raising these fantastic dogs. The females need to be artificially inseminated and usually they need to have a cesarean section. It is possible to naturally give birth for some females although very rare. The pups head and shoulders are very wide and very difficult for the mother to pass the pups on her own. The operation is also performed to safely produce healthy, prime quality puppies. You also have to take into account, the veterinarian bills, de-worming and food which all get quite costly. Breeders of these great animals devote much time to producing bulldogs puppies that are very healthy and try to give them the possible life.

dog vitamins

Dogs can benefit from taking health supplements in addition to their normal food. You as the owner need to make an evaluation of your dog’s needs. This evaluation must consider a number of factorsincluding age, level of conditioning, level of training, time of year and competition plans.

Vitamins are required for bone growth, good vision and for the body’s metabolism. Minerals are essential for strong bones and teeth. Supplements cannot make up for poor quality of foods, improper or inadequate training and conditioning. Yet, they are necessary for your dog to be healthy and strong.

Supplements are just that, supplements or additions to help get the most out of the food, to help minimize the stressful effects of the hard work of good training and to allow the dogs to reach their personal best potential in health and fitness. There are many of these supplements and some of them are discussed below.

Dog Nail Trimming

puppy paw

Start out just clipping the hook part of the nail until you get more comfortable and confident and you will be less likely to cut to far back and hurt your dog. Trimmer size is very important; select a pair that’s right for your breed and size of dog. And please spend the money and get a good quality pair! You get what you pay for.

Let’s also pay attention to this important detail when it comes to dog nail trimming. Make sure you take the time to get your dog relaxed and as calm as possible. This isn’t something that needs to be rushed. Take your time. I know you don’t want to put your dog through this any longer than necessary but lets face it, if you hurry I guarantee you will be looking up an article on how to stop my dogs paws from bleeding! Because you screwed up and cut to deep. You will do just fine if you just research the proper clippers, take your time, make sure your dog is calm and just take off a little nail at a time while you are learning. And remember you can just clip a nail or two one day and if you need to try again another day. That’s ok to, just make sure it gets done!

Keep in mind that starting these basic grooming procedures such as dog nail trimming when your dog is a puppy is always the best scenario because they will grow accustom to the routine, and if you do cut and draw blood please don’t pass out like I would do. Put some pressure on the wound and the bleeding should stop. And if you do draw blood, make sure you keep an eye on it and keep it clean! Ok now off you go, happy clipping.

Dog Parvo Virus Symptoms

Dog Parvo Virus Symptoms

If you own a dog, then the symptoms of dog parvo should be of great concern to you. If you or the vet had detected this problem in your pet, it is a must that you follow all the medication guidelines necessary in order to lead your dog to safety.

Dogs, when they’re infected with the parvo virus, would show symptoms like diarrhea, high fever, lethargy, eating problems, and vomiting. Check the stool of your dog. If it’s watery, yellowish, and has a strong scent, then your dog is likely to have acquired the problem. Oftentimes, the stool would contain blood too.

The parvo virus in canines divides into multitudes of cells inside the dog’s body. They would attack the organs, more particularly the digestive system. When this happens, the dog would have difficulty absorbing water and nutrients. A disruption in its body processes is expected.

The parvo virus is known to mostly infect adult dogs. However, it is also possible for small puppies to acquire the disease due to their weak immune system. Once infected, the dog parvo symptoms would show. You can expect instances of heart failure, shock, and in worse cases, sudden death. The dog parvo disease is a time sensitive disease. The moment you see any of these symptoms, be sure to consult with a veterinarian as soon as possible.

The dog parvo virus can be found on infected soil or dog wastes. If your pet smells or gets in contact with them, they would travel into the lymphatic system. From there, they would divide into great proportions and invade the bloodstream. They would start to mutilate the cells inside the body, until they reach their main destination - the intestinal tract. Once there, they would start deteriorating the walls of the intestines.

The moment the intestinal walls are damaged, the dog parvo symptoms would show. These are lack of appetite, bad-smelling discharges, bloody diarrhea, and foamy vomits. If left ignored, the entire wall of the intestine would breakdown, causing major infection a host of complications. It would eventually lead to dehydration and worse, death for your pet.

To prevent the dog parvo symptoms to show on your pet, the best way to do is to get it some vaccines. For puppies, they should be injected during their 6th to 8th week of age. Depending on the vet, the vaccines have to be boosted or repeated until the dog reaches 4 months. Then a yearly shot has to be given to make sure that your pet has strong defenses from the ill effects of dog parvo disease.

Health Issues of Shih Tzus

shih tzu puppy

Shih tzus can live for up to 10 to 18 years but the range can vary depending on their health condition, activities and how they are being cared for. Some factors that can contribute to their health’s deterioration are health issues. These health issues include:

Stenotic Nares. This diease is common among dogs considered to be brachycephalic such as Shih Tzus. Brachycephalic dogs, also called snub-nosed dogs are dogs with short wide head and narrow nostrils. This physical attribute causes increased resistance to airflow through the mouth, nose and larynx and can later lead to respiratory difficulty and enlargement of the heart.

Luxating Patella. Smaller breed of dogs such as shih tzus are at risk of having this health problem. Luxating patella occurs when the kneecap, which is usually located at the center of the knee point, slides out of its grove. Although luxating patella is a congenital disease, the disease is sometimes acquired through trauma. Signs of this disease include lameness in the affected legs (rear), walking on three legs, holding affected leg up or extending it backward.

Terrier Training Tips

yorkshire terrier puppies

Terrier dogs were originally bred to hunt and control vermin and other predators such as rats, mice, foxes and ferrets. This selective breeding for specific characteristic and traits gave rise to small, energetic breeds with very determined temperaments. Terriers were bred for their ability to dig tenaciously in search of their quarry as well as the tendency to bark persistently in order to frighten their prey out of hiding.

Terrier dogs tend to be small or medium in size and are usually described as feisty, willing to take on even the biggest of opponents with no regard for size. This is an excellent trait for hunting rats, but it’s not always a nice attitude with other pets or young children.

The very traits that make them successful hunters can also make them a little difficult to train effectively as their determined nature may seem to some as being stubborn.
